Our story

Détours Algérie was born from a deep attachment to this country of Mediterranean and Sahara, where every detour reveals another era — the Roman ruins of Tipaza, the Ottoman alleyways of the Casbah, the markets of Bou Saâda and the distinctive architecture of the M'zab oases.

The agency has been established in Algeria since 1999, first in Ghardaia and the M'zab oases, then based in Algiers from 2006 onwards. It follows in the footsteps of other local English-speaking agencies — Détours Madagascar and Détours Mauritanie — and shares their vision: journeys crafted with care, true to the landscapes crossed and the cultures encountered, from northern Algeria to the far Saharan South.

In Algiers, it is Louiza who represents the agency and supports English-speaking travelers on a daily basis. Alongside her, guides and drivers are carefully selected for their in-depth knowledge of the terrain and their attachment to their region. The team designs each itinerary around three core requirements inherited from the company: professionalism, safety, and respect for nature and local cultures.

Here, we don't replicate programs. We build trips that reflect who you are.

Détours Algérie is part of the Nomadays collective. This partnership allows you to benefit from direct organization with a local team based in Algiers, while enjoying secure booking in France: payment in euros, protection of deposited funds, APST guarantee and compliance with French tourism law. You thus get the best of both worlds: the proximity of an on-site team and the security of a protective legal framework.

The desert is not crossed with an itinerary alone. It demands listening, respect, and a certain inner availability.

What our travelers say

“An unforgettable trek across Algeria's vast landscapes, between starry nights and breathtaking scenery, despite unexpected fatigue – saved by a camel's patience and the kindness of our guides. Then, the wonder: Algiers, between a vibrant Casbah, colonial traces and captivating museums; Tipaza and its thousand-year-old ruins; Bou Saada, where two young girls unveiled the city's secret soul. The M'Zab, a cultural gem, completed our enchantment. This journey revealed a contrasting Algeria, between the Mediterranean North and the Mozabite South, and encounters of rare warmth. We leave captivated by this country, our hearts full of questions about its history, its peoples and its future. Such generous hospitality that a smile was enough to create connection. Thank you for this immersion that awakened a burning desire: to return. And above all, not to forget Tibhirine and the peace offered by Father Eugène. Algeria, far more than a destination, a revelation. — Frédéric and Chantal, December 2025”

Algeria

“Algeria is a magnificent city, pity that it's not more touristy. The people are very kind and welcoming.”

Algeria

“Back from Algeria still "completely mesmerized," Halima describes a journey of rare intensity. A woman of the Arab world, she thought she knew — she knew nothing, and that's precisely what made it all magical. A fireworks display of landscapes, sensations, and human encounters, over far too quickly. What she remembers most is the quality of the support: the presence of Louisa, so thoughtful and warm that her departure left a void, and the unforgettable encounter with Hamidou, both character and place rolled into one. She concludes simply: "I'll be back soon."”
