Here's how a camel trekking day typically unfolds:
Wake with the sunrise, followed by breakfast. Pack your bags and prepare the loads. While the camel herders take care of loading the animals, you set off with your guide.
Participants walk on foot, with baggage transported by pack camels. You need only carry essentials in your backpack for the day (sweater, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottles), along with some trail snacks and, occasionally, a small shared packed lunch. Midday stop (11 a.m. or noon). Cold meal. Resume trekking in mid-afternoon.
Arrive at camp at the end of the afternoon.
One or two backup camels are available in case of fatigue, discomfort, or illness, and will be used only in these circumstances. If you're feeling fit, you should not plan to ride a camel for any portion of the stages.
